Creating Success Through Partnership

EXCELLENT FACILITIES

Greenfield School occupies a thirty-five acre site.

Greenfield School has modern, well equipped buildings, including:

·    Two new Design & Technology rooms opened October 2005.

·    A new sports hall which opened in October 2006.

·    There are 3 floodlit match play tennis courts and a floodlit synthetic soccer pitch.

The school has invested heavily in the provision of Information Communication Technology.

The Resource Centre is open each evening and contains extensive computer facilities as part of the whole school network.

The Community & Arts Centre is open late into the evenings and during school holidays to provide additional learning opportunities for the community.   There are often in excess of 20 different adult education classes and 280 adult learners on roll.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS & PUPILS TO VISIT THE SCHOOL

There were pubic meetings for all parents of prospective students wishing to see the school at 2.00 pm and 6.30 pm on Tuesday 26th September.

However, you are very welcome to visit the school at any time -

just phone reception on 300378 and ask for a tour of the school.

You will hear how the school is organised and will be shown our excellent accommodation. Members of staff, students and parents will be available to answer questions informally.  Such visits have always been well attended and parents have told us that they are very worthwhile and informative.

CHOOSING GREENFIELD SCHOOL

Greenfield School is very popular, in September 2006 there were 763 on roll.  All year groups usually operate near to their maximum capacity.   Our catchment area has traditionally been the north and west of Newton Aycliffe but increasingly we have accepted students from any part of Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding villages.

PUPILS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

If your child has specific educational or physical needs, please discuss these with the Headteacher who will be pleased to make any special arrangements prior to your child starting at Greenfield School.

REQUESTING A PLACE AT GREENFIELD SCHOOL

Parents of pupils in Year 6 will receive a Parental Preference Form from your child’s Primary School.  This should be returned to your child’s current Primary School no later than 23rd October 2006.  This year you also have the option of applying for a school place using the on-line common application form.

Visit school admissions at www.durham.gov.uk for an on-line application form.  Alternatively click on the Durham link on the School website.

Full instructions are enclosed in this brochure for your assistance.

The LEA will confirm the allocation of secondary school places March 1st 2007.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEW PUPILS TO VISIT GREENFIELD SCHOOL

We aim to make the transition to Greenfield as smooth as possible and have forged strong links with Primary Schools.  In the summer term of Year 5, pupils have the opportunity to spend half a day at Greenfield, meeting teachers and experiencing classroom situations.  In Year 6, pupils are visited by Year 7 pupils who have just made the transition into Secondary and are willing to share their experience thus reassuring pupils early in their final year.

Please note:

The first morning of the autumn term is for Year 7 only.

We hope that once your child is here, you will not lose touch with us.  We try to maintain regular contact and ensure that you always feel very welcome to see us at any time.

Our telephone number is 01325 300378.  There is always someone in reception to help you.
